The Texas Department of Public Safety began issuing newly designed Texas driver licenses, identification cards and licenses to carry cards this past year of 2020.
All of the cards will feature a new look with updated design and security features.
The new driver’s licenses, ID cards and license to carry cards will be made out of polycarbonate material and feature laser engravings to help protect against forgeries.
New driver’s licenses and ID cards will also have an identifier on the front for anyone with a health condition that may affect their ability to communicate with others.
The new cards also identify veterans and disabled veterans as well as their branch of service, on the front of the cards.
As with any ID issued in Texas since October 2016, the new driver’s licenses and IDs will continue to be REAL ID compliant, as noted by a gold star in the upper right corner.
Any previously issued driver’s licenses in the state of texas will still be valid until its expiration date.
